It would be located about 50 km southeast of central Addis and about 40km southeast of Bole. I've never flown ET or transited through ADD, but I've heard stories about how the terminal is too small for the crowds it handles, it lacks amenities most travellers expect, there aren't enough jet bridges, and flights are often delayed due to traffic on the airport's lone runway. This is great news. ET has become one of the largest and best known airlines in the world and it needs a world-class airport to further improve its reputation. Ethiopia doesn't have the capital to build an airport as fancy as IST, DXB or DOH, but it can afford to build a modern and functional major airport. |

Sujet: Addis Ababa to get new airport - Envoyé le 12 Jan 19:22 There is a friend of my late parents whom I speak with regularly and he has been traveling to Ethiopia for the last 51 years. When he first went the airport was basically a large garage and in later years when Bole International Airport was opened he said it was the last word in African luxury but on his last three visits he said as you have to check in about 3 hours before your flight departs the terminal became very hot to the extent that many people passed out with heat exhaustion. The Air-Con was faulty so doors were left open as this was supposed to cool the building down but the hot air from outside rushed in and it became so difficult to breath. He is going back for his final visit in February and as much as he is looking forward to seeing and sadly saying farewell to so many great friends he is not relishing the return using the hot hot hot terminal. |
